In November 2023, Donna Whitt was elected Justice of the Peace for Toole County and City Judge for Shelby and Sunburst.
The office of the Justice of the Peace and City Judge is located in Room 104 of the lower level of the Toole County Courthouse. The office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Autumn Combs and Brenda Alexander are the Clerks of Court.
The court handles all traffic tickets for the city and county, as well as those written by the Montana Highway Patrol in Toole County, Gross Vehicle Weight tickets, Fish Wildlife and Parks tickets, tickets written to minors that relate to driving, alcohol or tobacco, and Animal Control tickets.
The court hears all small claims and civil matters within Shelby and Toole County and performs some marriages.
The position of Justice of the Peace is an elected position, and the Judge serves a four year term.
