Job Title: Airport Assistant
Department: Airport Reports to: Department Head

Work Unit Overview: The Airport Commission is a full service commercial airport for private air travel,
business planes, and emergency services.

Job Summary: The Airport Assistant performs duties directed by the Airport Manager. Will perform a
variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the goals and functions of the County
Airport.
Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities): These duties are the essential functions and are
not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.

Implementation of Airport operations to ensure compliance with existing environmental and safety
standards and federal and state laws and government regulations.

Maintain airport facilities, including runways and hangars.

Assist in analyzing air carriers and general aviation needs consistent with passenger, user demand
and in conformance with Federal and State laws and regulations.

Confer with governmental officials, businesses, commercial representatives, and the general public
about operations of Airport matters.

Direct Airport noise monitoring activities to maintain appropriate standards.

Assist in conducting special studies concerning County aviation programs and submit
recommendations to the Airport Board and County Commission.

Represent the department with state and federal officials, as well as agencies, and advisory groups.

Maintain good working relationships with fixed base operators, airline personnel, government
agencies, airport organizations, legislators, and community/airport participants.

Assist in the inspection of aviation and Airport facilities and arrange for corrective maintenance
work.
Assist in maintaining Airport operations and clerical records to ensure records are available for
review.
Assist in establishing a positive rapport with the community. Coordinate with emergency services
personnel from all levels of government during natural and manmade disasters and emergencies.

Non-Essential Functions:
Attend workshops, seminars, and educational sessions to keep updated on changes in assigned area
of departmental responsibility.

Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.

Must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work occurs in a normal environment, with frequent tours of tarmacs and runways, airport hangars,
and storage areas.

Supervision Exercised: This position is not a supervisory position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This job requires knowledge of modern business principles and practices as they relate to
governmental functions of an airport; Federal, State, and local rules and regulations affecting airport
operations; methods of airport financing; noise abatement requirements and procedures; current and
proposed legislation as it affects airports and air transportation in general, airport security and safety,
air carrier operations; Federal Aviation Administration decisions and regulations; research
methodology, report writing and basic statistics and their application.
This job requires the ability to organize, and evaluate the operation of a modern airport facility;
establish cooperative relationships with the public and effectively promote the concept of public sector
airport operations and the benefits of air transportation; establish and maintain effective working
relationships with county management personnel, employees, and the public in carrying out sound
policies; perform data collection, interpretation and evaluation,
Education and Experience:
The job requires education and experience equivalent to a combination of training, education and
experience that would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed.
Incumbents are required to undergo additional FAA Background, and/or Criminal History Checks as
determined by County, State, and Federal Regulations.
