The Senior Center provides residents, staff, or other customers with nourishing, well-balanced meals and snacks to meet dietary needs.

This position is located in the Senior Center and is responsible for food serving, preparation, and cleaning and sanitizing dishes, utensils, equipment, and facilities.

These duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs.
Collect, clean, and sanitize tableware, flatware, glassware, and equipment to ensure sanitary conditions. This includes following established procedures and guidelines, using cleaning and sterilizing equipment and tools, and operating manual and automated dishwashing equipment.
Wash and sanitize sinks, countertops, food service and delivery carts, and other work surfaces including sterilizing equipment as necessary.
Coordinate deliveries of commodities. Keep an accurate record of program information.
Prepare food items for cooking or serving to support and provide center director with needed items. This includes cutting and cleaning meat, fish, and poultry to prepare for cooking or serving; making dressings and sauces; preparing condiments for sandwiches; washing, peeling, and cutting various foods such as fruits and vegetables; mixing ingredients for green, fruit, vegetable and pasta salads; etc.
Deliver tableware, flatware, and glassware to dining areas or other customer locations; and prepare meals, under the direction of the center director for pickup by remote facilities as required to ensure the timely and sanitary delivery of meals to customers.
Collect dirty dishes and utensils from dining areas to transport them to the kitchen for cleaning.
Check and replace dish soap, paper towels, and other supplies as necessary to maintain adequate supplies in compliance with kitchen storage procedures.
Empty refuse containers to ensure compliance with established sanitation rules and guidelines.
Transport food, dishes, and other supplies as necessary to provide support and backup for other delivery positions.

Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to providing backup for other staff, participating in training, etc.
Inform supervisor when equipment is not working properly and when food and supplies are getting low.
Keep records to document the quantities of food used.

The demands and conditions described here are representative of those the employee must meet to perform the essential functions of the job.
Work occurs in a kitchen environment and incumbent is subject to regular exposure to excessive heat (from ovens, dishwashers, etc.), harsh or toxic chemicals, sharp instruments, and equipment with moving parts (e.g., mixers, dishwasher, blender, etc.).
The incumbent must periodically lift trays of dishes or cleaning supplies, which can weigh up to 50 pounds.

This position does not supervise other county employees.

The job requires knowledge of kitchen methods and procedures; cleaning and sterilizing equipment and tools; automated dishwashing equipment; and customer service techniques.
The job requires skill in the operation of kitchen utensils, appliances, and automated dishwashing equipment.
The job requires the ability to communicate effectively, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

The job requires education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or one year of experience in a food service environment.
